Arik Air, celebrated its seventh anniversary recently, unveiling in the process, a Canadian Regional Jet, CRJ, 1000 model, its latest brand new aircraft. The aircraft, manufactured by Bombardier, is 39.1 metres in length, which is 2.9 metres longer than the CRJ900; it has a 7.5 per cent trailing-edge extension over the CRJ900, with a 100 seat capacity; a 0.66 metre wing-tip extension, reinforced landing gear and carbon, instead of steel, brakes.
Michael Arumemi-Ikhide, group chief executive officer, GCEO, Arik Air, said the airline marked seven years of uninterrupted service, and looks forward to the next chapter of its history in revolutionising air travel in the country. “As in the past, Arik Air is humbled by its status as the Canadian based manufacturer’s African customer for the CRJ 1000,” Arumemi-Ikhide said.
Raphael Haddad, vice president, sales, Africa and Middle East, Commercial Aircraft at Bombardier Aerospace, described the aircraft as a highly reliable, highly economical and very good environmentally in terms of noise, fuel burnt, carbon emission. According to him, the CRJ1000 is very reliable and flies in many destinations around the world.
Arumemi-Ikhide disclosed that the airline’s focus now is on the introduction and deployment of technologies that would not only increase in-flight travel comfort but also avail passengers of more convenient avenues to book flights, get updates on their travel, and check-in for scheduled travel. “Arik Air’s mobile app is the next step in Arik’s mobile technology evolution and will be available to all our guests before end of December 2013. These, and many more services to come, such as our soon to be re-launched loyalty programme, underscore our commitment to deliver you a world-class travel experience built on our core values of safety, reliability, comfort and convenience,” he remarked.
