The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, on Monday unfolded a breakdown of bonus packages for the Super Eagles, technical crew and other officials who will be representing the country at the forthcoming men’s soccer World Cup in Brazil.
The summary was contained in the financial estimates presented by the Secretary General of the NFF, Musa Amadu when he appeared before the House of Representatives’ Sports Committee to defend NFF’S budget for 2014 on Monday. Amadu stood in for the president of the NFF, Aminu Maigari.
Although the federal government had approved the sum of N1.2 billion for the NFF to spend for the 2014 World Cup campaign, the Federation puts its total World Cup budget at N2.8billion, leaving a deficit of N829 million.
In a dramatic reversal from its hard line position that informed the introduction of Code of Conduct for the national team last year, the NFF proposed that each of the 23 players in the Super Eagles team be offered the jumbo sum of $10,000 as match bonus in the first round of the World Cup.
The bonus is further raised to $12,500 and $15,000 per player in the second round and quarter finals respectively.
Each player will get handsome match bonuses of up to $20,000 and $30,000 if they win their semi-final and final matches respectively.
The national Coach, Stephen Keshi would grab $20,000 bonus per match, while each of his three assistants are to earn $15,000. The chief coach will grab $40,000 if he guides the team to the semi final and $60,000 in the event Nigeria clinches the World Cup.
In addition to these, the Eagles would get a guaranteed sum of $8million as participation fees from FIFA.
