The Founder and General Overseer of the Living Faith Church, aka Winners’ Chapel with headquarters in Canaaland, Ota, Ogun State, Bishop David Oyedepo is unrelenting in his objection to one of the COVID-19 preventive measures adopted by the Lagos State government, and Ogun state government, which restricts Christian religious worship to just Sundays. Mocking the government on this directive, Oyedepo taunted: “In Lagos now, you can only worship on Sundays because coronavirus is not available on Sunday, but on Monday to Friday…I don’t understand this because all these things, they don’t make sense”. He also said that government might also decide to censor messages by the Church.

He, however, found it unfathomable that church services could be restricted to Sundays only when more people go to church, unlike weekly services which attract less attendance because people go to work.

They shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. Pastors reside in church. So, be committed to worshipping God in church. That is where knowledge multiplies and peace multiplies to match. Grace and peace multiply by knowledge. The Church is God’s knowledge centre. Has anybody caught any light here today? You can wait on your own for the next three years and not catch this because it’s not given to you. In thy light shall we see light” Oyedepo explained.

And I know that’s why the devil is after the Church because I don’t know why coronavirus is only centred on Church, not on factories, no. True or false? Because of the work they do, many can come on Sundays, but a few can’t come on weekend; it’s a mystery. You know what the Bible calls that? The mystery of iniquity; it’s a mystery. Believe me, as the devil saw people in this church this morning, he’s upset. If you can see the devil and x-ray him, his stomach is suspended; his intestine is choking, but he’s just beginning”.
Throwing jabs at the government, Bishop Oyedepo said “You know coronavirus in Nigeria is different. Some move in the night, some move during the day, but they don’t go near the market, no; they don’t go into buses. Coronavirus in Nigeria don’t enter buses; they don’t. My question is how scientific are these? We can’t all be asleep; if you are all asleep in the house when robbers come, they would deal with all of you. Somebody has to be awake to tell others wake up, some strangers are around here. The strangers are here and fade away; if they don’t hear, they won’t fade away.
