Nasir Faggae, president, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and Femi
Falana, SAN, have called for the creation of international network for the adoption of socialist system of government in Nigeria.
They also called for the popularisation of the Cuban experience as what they called a network base for the fight against imperialism.
The duo made the call on Saturday, April 19 at a lecture organised by Amicar Carbral Ideology School in solidarity Cuba.
Making the call, Faggae averred that their is every need to mobilise more countries in the world to domesticate the Cuban experience by creating an international forum for the popularisation of socialist ideology.
Faggae who pledged ASUU’s support for such ideas said the reason the Union is
not represented at the ongoing National Conference is because it believes its a
waste of money which could have been invested in the education sector.
Falana said it has become imperative for Nigeria to change from capitalism since it has produced more poor persons in the country. He however disagreed with Faggae when he said, “every theater of the struggle must not be left to the ruling class.” He said such avenues like the national confab must be explored by groups like ASUU to channel their opinion on national issues.
The event attracted several dignitaries including, Mariam Morales Palumero, Deputy Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria; Hassan Sunmonu, former secretary-General, Organisation of African Trade Union Unity and Philipe Noudjenoume, General secretary of the communist party of Republic of Benin among others.
