The Federal Government has said henceforth, all contractors, Consultant and Service Providers, who intend to do business with it, must be registered with the Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP), as failure to do so automatically bars them from transacting business with government.
This is in line with a new policy released by the Bureau, stating that failure to obey the directive will also amount to the contravention of the 58(1) of the BPP Act, which may also lead to prosecution and if convicted, may lead to imprisonment not less than five years.
OlusholaOmoore, a Director in the office of the Solicitor General of the Federation, while representing the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adokestated this on Monday, April 28 at a sensitization forum for contractors, Consultants and Service Providers organized by the Bureau for Public Procurement, BPP, in Abuja.
The Minister represented by Omoore, also noted that violators of the new policy, “shall have their names listed in the list of firms and persons that have been barred from participating in public procurement activities”.
The policy is a fall out of the current national data base for contractors, consultants and service providers, a technology driven innovation policy project which has been developed by the BPP to improve service delivery and ensure speedy implementation of federal government budget.
