Edo Government has dissolved all the Sub-Committees set up for the organisation of the 19th National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged Edo 2020. The dissolution of the committees now casts doubt over the likelihood of the sports fiesta still holding in spite of billions of Naira that had been committed into its organisation. The news of the dissolution was contained in a letter dated December 9, signed by the Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the festival, Emmanuel Igbinosa and sighted by Tell on Thursday.

According to the letter, the committees were dissolved because no specific date had been fixed for the festival by the Federal Government. Recall that the festival earlier scheduled to hold between March 22 and April 1, had suffered several postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The terse letter dissolving the Sub-Committees reads: “I am directed by the Deputy Governor who doubles as the LOC Chairman for the festival, to inform you of the dissolution of all committees with immediate effect.”

Hope rose a few weeks ago when the government rescheduled the festival for between January 3 and 18, 2021 before it was eventually put off indefinitely last week.
