Lagos State government has flouted a Federal High court order prohibiting it from collecting tolls from motorists using the LEKKI-IKOYI Bridge.
TELL investigation revealed on Friday that despite the Court judgment delivered on Thursday, March 27, Lagos authorities were still seen on the spot collecting the “Statutory” N250 from all motorists plying the suspension Bridge.
One of the Motorists who simply identified himself as Christopher said, “They still collect the normal N250 even as the road is more populated today because many people thought the Bridge will be free for use today.”
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos yesterday ruled that the collection of toll fee by the Lagos State Government or its agents on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge was illegal. The decision was as a result of a legal action brought before Justice Saliu Saidu by Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a lawyer, challenging the legality of the toll fee.
Ade Ipaye, Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice who stood in as Counsel to the Lagos State government promised to appeal the judgment.
Attempts to get Adegboruwa’s reaction to the latest development, proved abortive as he did not respond to calls and text messages sent to his mobile telephone number.
