While presenting the Certificate of Occupancy to some of the subscribers of the Ogun State homeowners charter that registered for the scheme in December 2013, Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun State governor, urged homeowners that are still sitting on the fence to register before the exercise ends on March 31, 2014 or pay a fine.
Amosun disclosed that his government would not offer discount to building owners that failed to comply with the scheme as they will be sanctioned with a fine.
Michael Okofu, one of the beneficiaries, who appreciated the Amosun-led administration told the magazine that the development is an indication that the state government is ready to correct many wrongs of previous administrations.
“I thought it was a political gimmick like other administrations did but I am now convinced that the governor has the interest of the people at heart. I now believe it is a people oriented initiative,” he said.
Amosun said his administration is committed to making life easier for residents of Ogun State. He added that his administration is set to use the data obtained from the homeowners’ charter to provide basic amenities like roads, hospitals and schools for the residents.
“Before now, there are no reliable records about residents in most of the towns at the border with Lagos State. We can plan adequately for the future with the data collected,” the governor said.
