Simon Kolawole Launches Online Newspaper

Simon Kolawole, former Editor of THISDAY Newspaper, is set to influence policies, decisions, and the leaders in the best way he deems suitable for the present digital age. He chose no other way but the publication of an online Newspaper named The Cable, which was launched today at the City Hall, Lagos Island, Lagos State.

Discussants at the event who spoke on the topic, “Nigeria at 100: Reflections on the future”, extensively discussed key national issues and all that is required to move the nation forward.

The discussants include Babatunde Raji Fashola, Lagos State governor; Senator Chris Anyanwu, Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy and founder HOT FM, Abuja; Segun Ogunsanya, Managing Director, Airtel Nigeria; John Momoh, Founder of Channels Television and in absentia, Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote group.

Speaking at the event, Governor Fashola decried the shortage of adequate intellectual personnel in the civil service, saying that all those who could have contributed brilliantly in the public sector are not prepared to work there.

In her words, Anyanwu said that the Senate will deal with poverty and unemployment as a matter of urgency, emphasizing the need for active involvement, compassionate and futuristic thinking rather than mere wishful thinking as a tool for national development.

The event was graced with the attendance of other dignitaries like Abdulsalami Abubakar, Former Head of State who was the father of the day and Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, THISDAY Media Group and Arise TV Networks as the moderator.

Kolawole, who said The Cable as a new online newspaper is meant to meet current information need, added that, “Negative and sentimental people are not likely to enjoy The Cable because it will be a quality online newspaper that will publish only constructive articles and comments.”

He said the mandate of the newspaper is to deliver knowledge-driven journalism in the pursuit of Nigeria’s progress.
