Smile Communications Nigeria Limited, a broadband service provider has introduced the, 4th Generation Long-Term Evolution, known as the 4G LTE technology, the latest and most advanced broadband network that promises to take away the frustration of slow internet service.
Speaking at the formal launch of the broadband service in Lagos, Tom Allen, Group Chief Operations Officer, said the LTE broadband comes with an unparalleled speed and quality of service that surpasses existing 3G networks ten times over. Some benefits of the 4G LTE would be video and television live streaming without buffering with a possibility to download a standard definition movie of 700MB in five minutes. According to Allen, the latest technology will make it possible for Nigerians to download an MP3 in less than five seconds and a book in less than ten seconds.
The network, which is already in operations in Tanzania and Uganda is already operational in parts of Ibadan and Lagos. There are plans to expand to Abuja and Port Harcourt by the middle of the year and a national coverage in the next few years.
Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi, chairman, assured that with the 4G LTE mobile network, Smile Communications would make browsing and internet surfing a pleasant experience for Nigerians. “Nigerians are too often let down by slow and unreliable services, and have been disappointed too many times when operators promise more than they can deliver. Smile will not repeat their mistakes- we have the technology, people and partners to ensure that we deliver what we promise.’’
Allen also revealed that the drive to expose Nigerians to digital citizenship is in tandem with the federal government resolve to promote broadband deployment across the country and that 400 direct jobs will be created in Nigeria before the end of the year.
