Godfrey Kamanya, a Malawian minister, on Thursday, May 22, committed suicide after losing his parliamentary seat at the general elections.

Kamanya, the outgoing deputy Local Government Minister, shot himself in his home. Though the official results of Tuesday’s election are yet to be announced, preliminary election results aired on radio stations disclosed that Kamanya was faring badly in the poll and was likely to lose his parliamentary seat.

It is alleged that he committed suicide over the news of his failure at the polls though investigations into circumstances surrounding his death are still ongoing.
