The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC has announced that a total number of 120 persons were killed in road crashes nationwide during the Yuletide season.
The Commission says the persons died between December 19 and 28.
Imoh Etuk, public education officer, FRSC said the figure, translates to 42 per cent reduction compared to 2013 figure of 208, within the same period.
“The reduction in figures between 2013 and 2014 was a fallout of the Corps’ massive deployment of personnel and logistics along critical corridors, based on intelligence derived from 2013 Yuletide operations,” Etuk said.
He added that the Corps recorded 48 per cent reduction in road traffic crashes within the period, which stood at 193, in comparison with 368 cases in 2013.
The statement said a 53 per cent reduction was also recorded in injuries in 2014, with 733 injured persons as against the 2013 figure of 1,564.
