Philip Shaibu, Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly has charged the public to demand accountability for N36 million constituency allowance given annually to members of the state assembly.
The lawmaker implored the people not to allow themselves to be deceived by the usual claims by some lawmakers that project execution is solely an executive function. He said all 24 members of the House receive an annual amount of N36 million for project execution in their respective constituencies to ensure that every community in the state is not left out in development.
Shaibu stated this on Sunday while commissioning three blocks of classrooms in Jattu and Ugiede communities in Etsako East Local Government Area of the state. He said, “Sometimes, my colleagues tackle me when I make public what comes to my constituency. But I don’t think it is something hidden, unless you decide to pocket the money rather than work for the people.” He further challenged the people to investigate his claim.
