In a moment filled with emotion and pride, Nigerian medical student Bob Chikwem Amadi has described his meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Saint Lucian Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre as one of the most inspiring experiences of his life.

Amadi, a native of Rivers State, is a student at the American International University in Saint Lucia, where he is currently preparing for the clinical phase of his medical training. On the second day of President Tinubu’s state visit to the Caribbean island nation, fate placed Amadi in the right place at the right time — not as a guest, but as part of the staff rendering service during the courtesy call at the Prime Minister’s official residence.

Working part-time as a talent and brand manager with a local catering and entertainment company, Amadi was on duty when Prime Minister Pierre informed President Tinubu that one of the service team members was a fellow Nigerian studying medicine in the country.

What happened next was a defining moment.

President Tinubu paused the formalities to greet the young man warmly. He asked Amadi his name, background, and how he was doing academically and personally. The Nigerian leader then offered words of encouragement and best wishes for his studies and future endeavours.

Amadi was later invited to take a group photograph with both President Tinubu and Prime Minister Pierre a symbolic moment that has since gone viral across Nigerian and Saint Lucian social media.

“This is a very inspiring moment for me,” Amadi said with emotion.
“Saint Lucia is an amazing island. I will describe it as a wonderful place. They are a very contented society, and things are relatively calm. We have always hoped that there are more opportunities between Saint Lucia and Nigeria. We share similar food crops and culture, and the connection is deep.”

Amadi has been living in Saint Lucia for over ten years. He has completed the four-year basic programme in medicine and is now preparing for the more intensive clinical training phase a major step toward fulfilling his dream of becoming a doctor.

The heartwarming encounter has been widely celebrated as a symbol of hope, cultural connection, and the global Nigerian spirit, especially among youth striving for success abroad.

President Tinubu’s visit to Saint Lucia has not only strengthened diplomatic ties but also touched individual lives like that of Bob Amadi showing that no matter where Nigerians are in the world, they are seen, heard, and valued.
