A senior officer of the Nigeria Police Force has triggered widespread outrage across the country after a viral video showed him threatening to shoot citizens who attempt to record police officers while on duty.
The officer, identified as Newton Isokpehi, made the controversial remarks in a video that surfaced online early Thursday, igniting heated debates about police accountability, abuse of power, and citizens’ constitutional rights.
In the now-viral clip, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) appeared to issue a direct warning to members of the public who film officers during stop-and-search operations or other official duties.
“Any day I’m on duty as a Nigerian police officer, let anyone record me. That person will provide the officer who gave them the order to be filming us, because I will clear everybody down,” he declared.
