In a major political shakeup ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have jointly submitted an application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register a new political party — the All-Democratic Alliance (ADA).

The move, confirmed by high-level sources within the political circle and INEC insiders, has sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s political landscape, signaling possible defections and a realignment of power blocs from both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The proposed party, ADA, is said to position itself as a “third force” with a focus on national unity, institutional reforms, youth inclusion, and economic revival. Observers are calling it one of the most significant developments since the 2015 merger that birthed the APC.

Political analysts believe this coalition may attract a wide spectrum of aggrieved politicians, technocrats, and youths disenchanted with the current political order. The group is also reportedly reaching out to other influential figures and former governors to join the movement ahead of its formal launch.

The development comes amid widespread dissatisfaction with the current state of governance, high inflation, insecurity, and internal crises within both the APC and PDP. It also intensifies speculation that many top politicians are preparing to abandon their current parties before the 2026 primaries.

While INEC has not yet made an official statement, sources say the commission has acknowledged receipt of the application and is currently reviewing the party’s constitution, manifesto, and list of founding members as required by law.

If approved, the All-Democratic Alliance (ADA) could radically alter the dynamics of the 2027 elections, presenting Nigerians with a fresh platform backed by political heavyweights from across the country.
