A Lagos Federal High Court will today, rule in a rights enforcement suit seeking the reinstatement of Murtala Nyako, impeached Governor of Adamawa State.

Olukoya Ogungbeje, a lawyer and rights activist, had filed the suit in August arguing that Nyako’s impeachment on July 15 was totally illegal.

Okon Abang, the trial judge had earlier fixed September 30 for hearing but the respondents filed an application leading to the adjournment of the case.

Wole Olanipekun, defence counsel had claimed that the Acting Chief Judge of Adamawa was not served the court processes. He added that the service of processes through the Adamawa State liaison office in Lagos was also faulty as it reflected the name of one Kasumu Bauchi, who was unknown at the Adamawa Liaison Office in Lagos.

Ogungbeje urged Abang to ignore the arguments of defence counsel and uphold justice by ordering the reinstatement of Nyako.

James Bala Ngilari, Nyako’s deputy presently serves as the substantive governor of the state.
