The Ekiti State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has dislodged a gang of 30-armed robbers that attempted to rob the First Bank branch in Ifaki-Ekiti and attacked the police station close to the bank early today.

The team led by Taiwo Lakanu, commissioner of police, CP, foiled the attempt of the armed men, who were trying to attack the bank and the police station simultaneously.

Victor Babayemi, Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Police Command, explained that the armed robbers fled into nearby bush when they were overwhelmed by the attack from the men of the .

“The CP led the team to the venue to dislodge the suspected criminals. We have fortified security around the town and other places they may use as escape route,” Babayemi said.

Babayemi added that the police in the state has been proactive in their operations lately. He said the CP met with bankers in the state last week to alert them on possible robbery activities, especially before the Christmas celebration.

“He warned them to be conscious of some staff that feed armed robbers with information about the bank and should not hesitate to report such cases to the police. Robbers only attack banks based on insiders information,” he added.
