What would have been a major crisis, endangering lives and properties and also compounding traffic situation at the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State, was averted Thursday afternoon. A tanker said to be loaded with petrol was about to go up in flames in front of OANDO filling station shortly before the pedestrian bridge when people rallied round.

Motorists were, in panic, turning back towards Lagos, while people were running away for fear of an explosion. That panic change of direction, which warranted driving against traffic on the expressway in front of the Otedola Estate, almost resulted in accidents too. But the intervention of some other motorists and workers at the filling station saved the situation.

By the time the dust settled the tanker stood alone in the middle of the road where there had been a slight traffic. Recovery effort was to bring back a temporary traffic to the lane.
