Against the expectation of party members, delegates, media and observers of the December 8 governorship primary of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the process was delayed for over five hours behind schedule.

Although the party could not give reasons for the delay in the commencement of the process of electing the party’s flag bearer, the magazine observed that the delegates were not allowed access to the entrance of the venue atplot 158, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, up until about 3: 47PMwhen theywere eventually called in for accreditation. This was for an event that ought to have started at 10am.

None of the aspirants arrived the venue before 2:19 pm during which Musiliu Obanikoro, one of the aspirants and former Minister of State for Defence arrived, amidst tight security.

Unconfirmed party sources told the magazine that 900 delegates are expected toparticipate in the event in which journalist ps were literally barred from covering except for a few who were hand picked at the gate.

The criteria for selecting some journalistswhile barring others from covering the party gubernatorial primary election which was supposed to be a public event was however not stated.

Whoever emerges as the candidate of the PDP will have to slog it out with Akin Ambode, candidate of the state’s All Progressives Congress, APC in 2015.
