A dramatic and dangerous standoff unfolded in Bhit Shah, Pakistan, on January 1, 2026, after a middle-aged man climbed a high-voltage electricity pole and threatened to harm himself unless his marriage demand was met, triggering hours of tension and a massive emergency response.
According to eyewitnesses and local authorities, the 45-year-old man scaled a 12,000-volt power transmission pole in the heart of the town, shocking residents and drawing large crowds to the scene. Witnesses said the man appeared emotionally distressed and repeatedly shouted that he would jump if his demand to be allowed to marry a particular woman was ignored.
The incident prompted an immediate response from police, rescue officials, and electricity authorities, who were forced to cut power in parts of the area to reduce the risk of electrocution. Negotiators spent several hours attempting to calm the man and persuade him to come down safely, while onlookers watched anxiously from below.
