Ebola: Government Postpones Schools Resumption

The Federal Government on Tuesday approved the extension of the current holiday of primary and secondary schools across the country as part of measures to curtail the spread of the Ebola Viral Disease, EVD in the country.

Comrade Jude Imagwe, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Students Matters disclosed this in Abuja while speaking at a one-day forum on Tertiary Institutions Students Health Insurance Programme organised by the National Universities Commission, NUC and the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS.

He stated no new specified date of resumption, as the extension is to hold until further notice.

Imagwe said President Goodluck Jonathan was wary of the danger of the disease to the nation’s future generation and had therefore ordered that the schools remain on holiday till the country finds a way out of the outbreak.

The senior special assistant urged Nigerians to be conscious of their environment and maintain healthy lifestyle during this period of Ebola outbreak.

He also cautioned against the use of untested and unscientific drugs as a prevention or cure to the virus.

Meanwhile, the National Council on Health, NCH, has banned the inter-state transportation of corpses with immediate effect.
