FIFA on Monday suspended Alex Song, a Cameroonian defender for three matches for elbowing a Croatian Striker, Mario Mandzukic, during the Cameroon versus Croatia match at the 2014 World Cup.
Cameroon went on to loose the match four goals to nothing. A statement from FIFA Media Office stated that Song was also fined CHF 20,000 about N3.6 million for breaching Article 48(1)(d) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
As contained in the statement,“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee on Monday decided to suspend Song for three matches and impose a fine of CHF 20,000 for breaching Art.48 (1)(d) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.”
It further added that, “The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming World Cup fixture between Cameroon and Brazilon Monday. The remaining two matches ban will be served at the next official matches of the Cameroon national team in accordance with Art. 38(2)(a) of the FDC.”
The match, which was the second Group A match, was the African team’s second loss out of the two matches played.Follow Us on Social Media
