In a record-breaking action, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, has sworn-in two key political appointees critical to the effective take-off of his government – the secretary to the state government, (SSG) Musa Umar Ikhilor, and Dr. Samson Osagie, the Attorney General (AG) and Commissioner of Justice – within 24 hours of his assuming office.
The governor and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, were inaugurated Tuesday afternoon at a colourful ceremony attended by the vice president, Kashim Shettima who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, cabinet ministers, and chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) among other dignatories.
Governor Okpebholo, had on Tuesday, barely two hours after his swearing-in, announced the nominations of Ikhilor, Osagie, and Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, who is to take charge of the Ministry of Health.
In less than 24 hours, Osagie was screened and confirmed by the Edo State House of Assembly while Oshiomhole’s screening was deferred till Monday when he would be available.
Governor Okpebholo charged the new appointees to help him achieve his vision for the state and ensure that the people came first.
According to him, “I was voted to work, and everybody should be ready to work. I carefully selected these appointees. They’re of proven integrity. Work with them so that we can do the best we should do.
“During my campaigns, I promised to work with the best and that’s what we have done with these appointments. Our best is yet to come.”
Responding, the SSG said the team would help the Governor in fulfilling his campaign promises by driving meaningful change and development in the state.
Osagie, the newly sworn-in AG and Commissioner of Justice, said in his new capacity, he would help the governor achieve his agenda for the people.
“I’ll ensure that the rights of Edo people are protected,” he promised.
