It is a fruit. But it is also often misclassified as a form of vegetable. But whatever it is called, tomato which sometimes doesn’t appeal to some people in their meals has a whole lot of health benefits.

Recent research outcomes have indicated that tomato, which contains vitamins, helps improve eyesight as well as prevent night-blindness and muscular degeneration. Studies indicate that tomatoes contain large amounts of the antioxidant lycopene that is effective in lowering the risk of cancer, especially lung, stomach and prostrate cancers.

The research also showed that a single tomato can provide about 40 per cent of the daily vitamin C requirement and also contains vitamin A, potassium, and iron that are essential for maintaining normal blood health. It also has Vitamin K, which controls bleeding and blood clotting, while also helping with blood circulation.

The lycopene in tomatoes can also protect against cardiovascular diseases. Consuming tomatoes regularly helps decrease the levels of cholesterol and triglyceride in the blood, reducing the deposition of fats in the blood vessels. Eating tomatoes daily can keep digestive system healthy as it prevents both constipation and diarrhoea. It also prevents jaundice and effectively removes toxins from the body.
