Rasheed Arogundade, a professor of Radiologist at the University of Lagos, said failure of governments at all levels to invest in the country’s education sector was responsible for the growing trend of medical tourism abroad.
Against the backdrop of insinuations in some quarters that mismanagement of funds was responsible for the decades of the nation’s medical facilities, Arogundade said the main problem is that there are no enough funds to procure the needed equipment for diagnosis and treatment of patients in the country.
“The solution is that government should pump a lot of money into education. They don’t allocate enough funds to education, that is why the needed equipment in medical schools, for instance, are not there,” he said.
He made the statement yesterday, Wednesday, July 22, 2015, while delivering his professorial inaugural lecture at the university’s main auditorium.
