The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has stepped into the growing controversy surrounding the detention of social media activist VeryDarkMan, assuring protesters in Abuja that he will be released within the next 24 hours.
Addressing a crowd of peaceful demonstrators gathered outside the Commission’s headquarters on Monday, a senior NHRC representative stated that direct intervention from the Executive Secretary helped accelerate the process.
“We made calls yesterday, and we believe those efforts have yielded positive results,” the representative said. “We are closely monitoring the situation to ensure VeryDarkMan’s fundamental human rights are fully protected.”
The assurance comes after days of public outrage and nationwide protests, both online and offline, demanding the activist’s release following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Many supporters have criticized the EFCC for holding him without promptly stating the charges or following due process.
With the NHRC now actively involved and publicly committed to safeguarding the activist’s rights, momentum appears to be building toward a resolution. Protesters have vowed to continue their peaceful demonstration until VeryDarkMan walks free.
