Renowned Nigerian music producer and sound engineer YolyBoy has finally addressed the heated controversy surrounding a viral “before-and-after” vocal mix video of gospel sensation Mercy Chinwo, setting the record straight in a public statement.

The now-viral video clip, which showcased a raw vocal recording of Mercy Chinwo alongside its final, mixed version, sparked widespread speculation online. While some fans and blogs accused the producer of trying to embarrass the award-winning singer, others claimed the release was part of an ongoing feud between Chinwo and her former manager, EeZee Tee.

In a statement released on social media, YolyBoy clarified his intentions behind sharing the video:

“As the engineer behind the live recording and mixing of Mercy Chinwo’s recent performance, my goal was strictly professional — to showcase the behind-the-scenes magic of sound engineering. Nothing more, nothing less.”

He emphasized that the clip was never meant to question Mercy Chinwo’s vocal ability, but rather to educate and inspire creatives about the artistry involved in audio production.

“Mercy Chinwo is one of the most anointed and vocally gifted gospel artists in Africa. The raw vocals in the clip are not a weakness — they are proof of authenticity. The mix simply enhances what was already powerful,” he added.

YolyBoy also shut down claims that he had been paid to post the clip as a smear tactic:

“Let me be clear — no one paid me to post anything. As a producer and content creator, I document my work. That’s what the clip was — a showcase of my journey as a young Nigerian audio engineer, not a hit job.”

Known for his work with rising gospel stars like Ebuka Songs and Peterson Okopi, YolyBoy affirmed his commitment to uplifting the gospel music industry through transparency and craft, distancing himself from any form of controversy or personal vendettas.

“I will continue sharing my work and celebrating the gospel music community without getting dragged into politics or personal feuds,” he said.

As the buzz continues online, fans have taken sides — some defending Chinwo’s raw vocal power, while others commend YolyBoy for shedding light on the magic behind the mix. Regardless, one thing is clear: the spotlight on gospel music production has never been brighter.
