Lagos Guber Race: Shasore As A Game Changer

The race for the exalted office of the governor of Lagos State has taken a new twist with the recent emergence of Olasupo Shasore, a former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in Lagos State who served between 2007 and 2011.

Shasore, who recently picked his nomination and expression of interest forms at the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC at Acme Road, Ogba, has joined other 12 governorship aspirants from his party in the primaries, which comes up on Thursday, December 4, 2014.

TELL’s findings revealed that Shasore’s ambition was hinged on the public declaration of Bola Tinubu, former governor of the state and national leader of the party, who assured that he would not be supporting any of the aspirants.

In spite of that declaration, it is believed that the choice of who becomes the next governor of Lagos State will be determined by two main actors – Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola, the current governor.

Tinubu is believed to be rooting for the candidacy of Akinwunmi Ambode, the former Accountant-General of Lagos, who has been said to be a non indigene of Lagos.

On the other hand, Shasore, a consummate lawyer and seasoned technocrat who was recently described by Rilwan Akiolu, Oba of Lagos, “as a true son of the state,” is believed to enjoy the backing of young professionals and a large number of party faithful who are eager for a level playing field in the party.
