Former Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has reignited controversy around Nigeria’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign, accusing the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of interference, mismanagement, and sabotaging the team’s preparations.

In a newly surfaced interview, Waldrum claimed that weeks before the World Cup, NFF officials attempted to impose a player he had “never seen in [his] life” on the squad — insisting she must be included in the final team list.

“They brought a stranger to me, saying she must play. Can you imagine me taking a player I’d never seen in my life to the World Cup? I refused. NFF punished me and the entire team for it,” he said.

Waldrum also alleged significant financial and administrative misconduct by the federation, stating that despite FIFA providing $960,000 to Nigeria for World Cup preparations and covering 22 technical staff, the NFF only made 11 staff members available to him.

“NFF couldn’t even pay for flight tickets. We had no friendly games. I don’t know why Nigerians don’t question these kinds of things,” the former coach added.

His revelations have sparked widespread outrage among football fans and analysts, with many calling for a full investigation into the NFF’s handling of funds, selection processes, and support for the women’s national team.

The NFF has not yet issued a response to the latest allegations, but the claims have once again put Nigeria’s football administration under intense public scrutiny as demands for transparency grow louder.

The story continues to dominate conversations on social media, with Nigerians debating accountability, corruption in sports governance, and the future of the Super Falcons under better management.
