Bandits have once again visited terror on one of the local government areas in Niger State. The latest attack was on the Yangalu community in Mogama local government area of the state. According to reports, the bandits swooped on the community on motorcycles, shooting sporadically, which made people run for safety.
By the time the dust settled, seven people had lost their lives. Though there is no report that they abducted anyone yet, it was reported that the bandits also made deliberate efforts to destroy foodstuff and properties of people in the community.
It is one of the series of attacks in the state. Governor Sani Bello had complained that the federal government had not taken his reports seriously and so offered little help. The governor said the federal government should realise that happenings in states that share boundaries with the federal capital could affect the seat of government soon.
But when the federal security agencies started visiting the state, Bello said he had noticed some changes. This latest development is an indication that there is no improvement. Sufianu Yahaya, chairman of Magama Local Government council promised that measures will be taken to improve the security situation in the area. That remains to be seen, as tens of thousands of people have been displaced from similar attacks in the past.
