Residents of Oka Akoko in Ondo State have hailed local hunters and vigilante operatives following the arrest of several suspected armed bandits during a security operation that has generated widespread attention across social media.
The suspects, believed to be involved in criminal activities in the Akoko axis, were apprehended on Thursday during a coordinated operation by indigenous hunters and members of the local security network. Videos circulating online show large crowds gathering around the arrested individuals as they were paraded through parts of the community.
According to local sources, security operatives recovered AK-47 rifles and motorcycles allegedly used by the suspects. The arrested individuals were reportedly handed over to the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, for further investigation.
The operation has attracted significant public attention because of claims by some residents that traditional invocations, known in Yoruba culture as “ofo,” played a role in preventing the suspects from escaping. Eyewitnesses and social media users alleged that the Oluode, the leader of the hunters, performed traditional rites that allegedly immobilized the suspects and their motorcycles.
