Edo state government is bringing succour to road users and residents in the Sapele Road axis of Benin City and other surrounding areas within the Benin metropolis as the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration has commenced the rehabilitation of the old Sapele Road and other adjoining roads.

The government said the move is to ease traffic gridlock and reduce congestion on the major roads.Governor Okpebholo carpeted his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki for allegedly not deploying increased allocation to the state to work for Edo people. Urging Edo people to demand an explanation from him, Okpebholo said everyone could see what he’s doing with his own.

The Governor, while inspecting some of the ongoing road projects, said his administration would be judicious in the use of revenues accruing to the state to improve the quality of life. He assured Edo people of transparency and accountability. Some of the project sites visited were Evbukhu, Ogheghe, Old Sapele Road, Catholic Charismatic Way, of Upper Ekenhuan Road, Ugbiyoko, amongst others.Satisfied with the pace of work, Governor Okpebholo thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for increasing federal allocations to the states which he said he is utilizing to develop and grow the economy of the state thereby making life better for Edo people through practical governance.

Governor Okpebholo stressed that when completed, the Old Sapele Road would divert traffic from the main road, thereby reducing heavy vehicular movement of goods and services and allowing motorists access to alternative routes to their destinations, which he noted would greatly reduce traffic gridlockAccording to Senator Okpebholo, “Whatever we are doing as an administration in Edo State we are doing for the benefits of Edo people. The President has made it easy for us as he has increased federal allocation, and with that money, we are developing Edo State, working to improve the lives of Edo people.

“Former governor Godwin Obaseki received Federal allocations also. He ought to have used the money to work for Edo people. He should be asked what he did with the money as my administration is working with our own, and all Edo people can see our projects across the state to improve their well-being.

“Edo belongs to us, and it is our responsibility as citizens of the State to unite and collaborate in developing and growing the economy for the benefits of all Edo people.“We all need to join hands together to develop the State, as no one will do it for us if we do not. We can not go to another State to bring people to develop our State for us, but we have no choice but to develop it ourselves through unity and collaboration.”
