Osun 2026: APC Chieftain Warns Police to Stay Neutral, Says Election Violence Could Trigger Chaos

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on the Commissioner of Police deployed for the August 15 governorship election, Mr. Samuel Etaifo, to ensure a peaceful, credible and violence-free electoral process.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye stressed that the success of the election would depend largely on the ability of security agencies, particularly the police, to remain neutral, professional and committed to protecting voters before, during and after the poll.

He noted that political tension was already building ahead of the governorship election and warned that any perception of bias by security agencies could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

According to him, safeguarding the electorate should remain the top priority of the police throughout the election period.

“The protection of the electorate before, during, and after the election should be the major priority of the police. I want to appeal to the Commissioner of Police deployed for the election to ensure adequate protection of the electorate at all stages of the electoral process. A credible election can only take place in a peaceful environment. That is why we are urging security agencies, particularly the police, to maintain a peaceful atmosphere,” he said.

Oyintiloye also appealed to political parties and their supporters, especially members of opposition parties, to conduct themselves peacefully, emphasizing that elections should never be treated as a battlefield.

He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies carrying out their constitutional duties to maintain law and order across the state.

The APC leader further warned that anyone attempting to incite violence or disrupt the electoral process should face the full weight of the law, regardless of political affiliation or social status.

According to him, Osun State must not be allowed to descend into violence over political competition, insisting that the state’s peace and stability are more important than the outcome of any election.

“Elections will come and go, but the state and its people will remain. Police and other security agencies must not spare anyone caught fomenting trouble regardless of status,” Oyintiloye stated.

He expressed confidence in the APC’s chances at the polls, predicting victory for the party’s governorship candidate, Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji.

Oyintiloye described Oyebamiji as a competent, experienced and visionary leader who possesses the capacity to deliver inclusive governance, accelerate development and improve the welfare of the people of Osun State if elected governor.

With political campaigns entering a decisive phase ahead of the August 15 governorship election, security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to maintain peace and ensure that voters exercise their democratic rights without intimidation or violence.
