The Police in Port Harcourt on Friday said they found a gun in the panties of the student that was shot dead on Thursday at the Rivers State University.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said the gun was found when the police were preparing the corpse of the deceased for preservation at a mortuary.
“The student who was shot dead, when we took him to the mortuary, as he was being undressed, we discovered a locally made pistol in his panties. He too may not be a clean person,” Omoni said.
The PPRO, who confirmed that the 300-level student arrested for the shooting of the deceased was in the custody of the police, but he declined giving out the identity of the suspect.
The PPRO said the campus shooting was cult-related, and that the police were already on the trail of other people that might have participated in the killing.
He said the police have restored calm in the university. Harcourt Whyte, the university’s public relations officer, also assured students that security measures had been put in place to enable students sit their examinations.
