A Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State has adjourned till December 10, 2014, the case involving one Shakiru Adebayo, 37, who is alleged to have kidnapped two commercial motorcyclists.

The search for those two motorcyclists led to the discovery of the ritualists’ den in Soka community, Oluyole Local Government Area, Ibadan.

Sunday Ogunremi, the prosecutor said the action of Adebayo who was alleged to have kidnapped the duo of Lanre Salami, 25 and Dare Ogunkunle, 23, on Thursday March 20, contravenes section 364 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap.38, Vol. 11, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Sofiat Oyediran, the chief magistrate, had granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum when he pleaded not guilty at the first arraignment in May.

However, the court is currently awaiting legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, which will determine if the suspect can be taken on a full trial at the High court or not.

Ogunremi said the DPP will look into the case file; peruse it and advice the court if the suspect is to be charged or not. “If he is to be taken to High Court, it will be stated in the advice. This court will now send him to High Court. Presently, he is being charged for kidnapping and not murder. Before you charged somebody for murder, the person must have been killed,” he said.

Adebayo is likely to be jailed for more than 10 years, if found guilty.
