Hannah Awolowo, widow of the late Obafemi Awolowo and Chairman of Yoruba Unity Forum has called on Nigerians, especially the ruling political class, to put required measures in place to create a wealthy and virile nation.
While speaking at the Efunyela Hall, Ikenne, Ogun State, venue of the recently concluded general meeting of the Yoruba Unity Forum, Awolowo who is also the Yeye Odua of Yorubaland urged members of the Yoruba race to close ranks and stand against sentimental mechanisms being devised by people from other tribes to disintegrate them and the nation at large.
Awolowo expressed regret at the unfortunate position of the Yoruba nation compared to other tribes and states in the federation. She attributed this to the unhealthy rivalry between people who belong to different social classes in the Yoruba race.
She then called on the present administration led by President Goodluck Jonathan to look into the alleged relegation of the Yoruba people in the scheme of things in the nation.
Awolowo charged the government to do everything within its power to put an end to all actions that constitute relegation of any tribe or group of people in the country.
