It was another milestone for management, students, and sponsors of Lady Mechanic Initiative, LMI School of automotive engineering on Thursday when the school marked its 10th anniversary in Lagos State.
As part of activities marking the event which held at the Federal Palace Hotel and Casino, Lagos, the organisation also unveiled the Association of Female Technicians of Nigeria, ALAT, established to encourage female participation in the auto industry.
The school also used the event to award certificates to the 2014 batch of graduating female mechanics across the country.
At the event, some Nigerians were also honoured with awards for their outstanding performance in supporting the initiative which was kick-started in 2004.
Those who were awarded include, President Goodluck Jonathan who was honoured for being the most gender-friendly President of the country; Olusegun Aganga, Minister for Trade and Investment, for making the auto policy gender-friendly and Zainab Maina, Minister for women affairs and social development for her unprecedented economic empowerment of women in Nigeria.
Expressing joy that what started 10 years ago has become a female gender-transforming concept, Sandra Aguebor, founder of LMI said the program has seen many girls and women, across the country reformed and empowered to become more productive to the society.
Some of the graduates who spoke with the magazine expressed joy that they have been well empowered with the much needed skills to become qualified and professional auto mechanics.
