President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the constitution of the Nigerian delegation to the US-Nigeria Joint Working Group, a strategic move aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in tackling Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
This was announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Thursday, November 27, 2025. The Joint Working Group was one of the key outcomes of the recent high-level engagement in Washington, DC, led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. The group is expected to drive deeper collaboration between both countries on defence, intelligence, counterterrorism and humanitarian responses.
Ribadu will head the Nigerian side, supported by a high-powered multi-sectoral team made up of senior officials from critical government agencies.
Those appointed to the Joint Working Group include:
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar
Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar
Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Bernard M. Doro
Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede
Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Mohammed Mohammed
Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun
Ms Idayat Hassan from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and Mr Paul Alabi of the Nigerian Embassy in the United States will serve as the secretariat for the Nigerian team.
President Tinubu charged the members to work closely and diligently with their US counterparts to ensure seamless execution of all agreements reached across multiple sectors.
