President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for the successful revival of the Port Harcourt refinery which officially resumed petroleum product loading Tuesday November 26, 2024. He expressed appreciation for the foundational efforts of former President Muhammadu Buhari who initiated the comprehensive rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries and thanked the African Export-Import Bank for financing the project. Acknowledging the dedication of NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, President Tinubu praised his leadership in overcoming challenges to achieve this milestone. He emphasised the importance of accelerating the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery and the Warri and Kaduna refineries, urging NNPCL to prioritise these efforts. These developments, alongside contributions from private refineries, are expected to boost Nigeria’s domestic production capacity and position the country as a major energy hub. The administration has also directed significant attention to the gas sector, ensuring it plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s economic transformation. President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s resolve to repair the nation’s refineries and eliminate the notion of Nigeria being a major crude oil producer unable to refine its resources for local use. He called on all stakeholders to demonstrate patience, integrity, and accountability in their service to the nation. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the President reaffirmed his commitment to achieving energy sufficiency, strengthening energy security, and enhancing Nigeria’s export potential, aligning with the vision of shared economic prosperity for all citizens.
