A visit to Ogoniland by investors in oil exploration from Kuwait, Dubai and the United States
A visit to Ogoniland by investors in oil exploration from Kuwait, Dubai and the United States has created suspicion and division between two major pan-Ogoni organizations. On Thursday, the Ogoni Liberation Initiative warned a factional President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, Sika Fegalo, from making utterances that could lead to a breach of the peace in Ogoniland. The President of Ogoni Liberation Initiative, Febake Douglas, was responding to a statement by Fegalo urging the Nigerian government to stop the foreign investors from further trying to forcefully resume the exploration of oil Ogoniland as it could lead to killings and communal strife.Fegalo’s statement had come barely days after Ogoni Liberation Initiative hosted a conference with global investors from Kuwait, Dubai, USA and other countries. But the President Ogoni Liberation Initiative said the MOSOP President’s statement was baseless because the investors came to Ogoni with good intentions.Douglas said his organization had spent a lot of money already in seeking redress in the injustice done to Ogoni people and providing for the welfare of the people and the growth of Ogoni economy. But he maintained that the Ogoni Liberation Initiative would not be deterred from carrying out its mission to better the lives of the Ogoni and restore the damaged environment.
