The Federal Government has earmarked a total of ₦696.42 billion for the Ministry of Interior in the 2026 Appropriation Bill, signalling renewed emphasis on internal security, border control, correctional reforms, and emergency response across the country.

A detailed breakdown of the allocation shows that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) received the largest share, with ₦244.26 billion. The funding is expected to strengthen the protection of critical national assets, expand community-based security operations, and improve personnel welfare nationwide.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) followed closely with an allocation of ₦200.80 billion, reflecting government focus on border security, migration management, passport reforms, and the deployment of modern technology to curb illegal movement and transnational crime.

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) was allocated ₦198.85 billion, underscoring efforts to improve custodial and non-custodial correctional systems, decongest correctional centres, and enhance rehabilitation and reintegration programmes for inmates.

For emergency response and disaster management, the Federal Fire Service (FFS) received ₦44.29 billion, a boost expected to enhance firefighting capacity, equipment acquisition, and rapid response to fire outbreaks across major cities and rural communities.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior Headquarters was allocated ₦5.58 billion to support policy formulation, administration, and inter-agency coordination, while the Civil Defence, Immigration and Prison Service Board (CIPB) received ₦2.64 billion for recruitment, promotions, discipline, and human resource management across the paramilitary services.

In total, the Ministry of Interior’s 2026 budget stands at ₦696,416,792,599, reflecting government efforts to reinforce internal security institutions amid growing concerns over public safety, border integrity, and emergency preparedness.

Security experts say the effectiveness of the allocation will ultimately depend on transparent spending, efficient implementation, and tangible improvements in internal security and service delivery.
