When it comes to conjuring ideas and services meant to woo or attract customers, Japanese entrepreneurs appear to be one step ahead of their counterparts elsewhere. From introducing a cat cafe that caters to cats owned by customers, another hotel in the country called Mitsui Garden Yotsuya Hotel, in Shinjuku, has come up with the ‘crying rooms’ idea for female guests! The concept is for distraught women to have a special place to relieve tension or pent up anger and stress. While the idea may sound ludicrous or strange to some people, Mitsui Garden Yotsuya’s management thinks it makes sense and considers it a well thought out initiative to assist its female clients overcome emotional heartache. For that reason, the rooms deployed for that purpose are stocked with luxury tissues that can be used to “gently wipe away tears,” as well as a steam eye mask to “avoid swollen eyes” after a weeping spree. A selection of sentimental Manga comic books and films are also provided, including tearjerkers such as Forrest Gump and South Korean film A Moment to Remember. The crying rooms are part of a special promotional package available until August 31, this year at 10,000 Japanese yen, about $80 per night. Curiously though, it’s only women who are targeted in the promo.
