Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, on Saturday, leading chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress, and the Edo State governorship candidate of the party for the September 21 election, Senator Monday Okpebholo, sought the support of traditional institutions towards overall development of the state.
Shettima, who had on his entourage during a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Omo N‘Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare 11, president of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, former Kano State governor, among others, assured that with the support of traditional institutions in the state led by Oba Ewuare II, and collective will of the people, Edo would develop.
Seeking the Oba’s royal blessing and prayer ahead of the grand finale of the party’s governorship campaign, the Vice President commended Oba Ewuare’s “skillful balancing of tradition with modernity by ensuring that the values and customs of Benin people were preserved”. He extended the best wishes of President Bola Tinubu to the first-class traditional ruler.
Addressing the Benin throne, the Vice President said, “As we approach the governorship election in this great and beautiful Edo State, we seek your blessings and counsel. Our party’s candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is searching for progress and development of this great state. With your support and the collective will of Edo people, we can usher in an era of unprecedented growth and prosperity for the state”.
Responding, Oba Ewuare II, welcome the Vice President and wished the delegation, which included APC governors, some members of the National Assembly, led by Akpabio, and National leaders of Nigeria’s ruling party led by its national Chairman, Ganduje, former Kano State governor, well in their endeavour.
