The government of Enugu State has redeployed Sunday Onyebuchi, impeached deputy Governor, to the state civil service.
This came as Sullivan Chime, the state governor swore in Raphael Ifeanyi Nwoye as the new Deputy Governor on Monday.
Chime in his speech announced the redeployment of the impeached Deputy Governor to the State Civil Service as a deputy director on Grade Level 15. Onyebuchi was in the civil service before being appointed to political office under the administration of former Governor of the state, Chimaroke Nnamani.
Chime said the new Deputy Governor was not new to him, as they had both served as commissioners in the previous administration. He added that he was sure that Nwoye would bring his experience and background “not just as a Minister of God but as a fine gentleman,” to bear in the discharge of his new duties.
Speaking on the impeachment of Onyebuchi the governor said, “What has happened, I believe it happened in the best interest of Enugu State and not only government.”
Chime congratulated the new deputy governor and charged him to work with due diligence and cooperation with the government as well as the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.
In his speech, the new deputy governor expressed gratitude to God and to the Governor for the opportunity to serve in his new capacity.
He lauded the vision and good works of the Governor and pledged his support and commitment to ensure that Enugu people continue to enjoy the benefits of good governance being delivered by the present administration.
The new deputy governor was serving as the Bishop in charge of Ugwuaji Awkunanaw, Enugu District of the Christ Ascension Church, founded and headed by Godwin Nwoye, his father, before his appointment.
Nwoye had also served in government as Commissioner for Environment and Caretaker Chairman of Nkanu East Local Council under Chimaroke Nnamani’s administration.
