The Nigerian Police have reportedly arrested the individual who allegedly sent the parcel containing a Beretta pistol from Bayelsa State to Effurun, Delta State — a development linked to the tragic killing of Mene Ogidi.

Although the Nigeria Police Force has yet to officially confirm the arrest, sources familiar with the investigation disclosed to journalists that the suspected sender is currently in police custody, while authorities intensify efforts to apprehend another individual believed to have instructed Mene Ogidi to pick up the parcel at a motor park.

The incident, which has sparked widespread reactions across social media and within the Niger Delta region, reportedly began after Ogidi was linked to a package said to contain a Beretta pistol transported from Bayelsa to Delta State.

Investigators are now said to be tracing the full network behind the parcel delivery and the circumstances that led to Ogidi’s death.
In another major development, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, through Deputy Inspector-General Tunji Disu, has reportedly ordered the mass transfer of about 1,332 police officers from the Delta State Command to various states including Anambra, Imo, Edo, and Enugu.

According to SaharaReporters, the sweeping redeployment followed the fallout from the Mene Ogidi incident, which has continued to generate controversy and public scrutiny over police operations in Delta State.

Security analysts say the mass transfer may be part of internal disciplinary measures and strategic restructuring aimed at restoring public confidence and preventing further tension within the state.

As investigations continue, many Nigerians are demanding full transparency from the police authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding Ogidi’s death, the parcel delivery operation, and the identities of all individuals involved.

The police are yet to issue a comprehensive official statement on the latest developments as of the time of filing this report.
