John Odigie-Oyegun, national chairman, All Progressives Congress, APC, has announced on Friday that the party has accepted Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as the President of the Senate and speaker of the House of Representatives respectively. Odigie-Oyegun, who spoke after the transition committee submitted their report to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Defense house in Abuja, said the reality was that they were duly elected by their colleagues in the National Assembly and the party was ready to live with that reality.
Saraki and Dogara, both of the APC, emerged as leaders of the National Assembly on Tuesday against the directives of the party which had earlier asked its members to vote for Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila.
On the crisis that erupted in the party after the elections in the National Assembly, the national chairman assured Nigerians that the APC had faced greater challenges before and the latest one too would pass away.
“It is not the first or second time we have passed through this kind of scenario and we came out strong. This may not even be the last time, we come out every time stronger and more determined,” he said.
