The Senate has approved the state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu earlier.
Senator Godswill Akpabio, president of the Senate read the resolutions taken at an earlier meeting of the senators, which approved the declaration, recommended the constitution of a body made up of eminent Nigerians to reconcile the warring parties in the crisis before the expiration of the six months state of emergency.
The Senate also resolved that the National Assembly would raise a team that will oversee the state during the period of the emergency. This last resolution was a diplomatic correction of the part of the president’s statement that said that the federal executive council will direct the affairs of the state through the administrator appointed by Tinubu.
