Ogun To Recruit 2,000 Street Sweepers

Ogun State government has commenced the process of recruiting 2000 ad- hoc street sweepers across the state in a bid to create a cleaner and safer environment, as well as create job opportunities.

Speaking on the exercise, Ayo Olubori, Commissioner for Environment said the recruitment of the additional street sweepers would complement the efforts of the 1,000 already employed, adding that the exercise would cut across the three Senatorial districts of the state.

“The recruitment programme is in fulfillment of the promises made by the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun during this year’s World Environment Day celebration in June that additional 2000 street sweepers will be recruited alongside 3000 Environmental Marshals as a measure aimed at creating a cleaner and safer environment. While it will also create job opportunities, which is one of the five cardinal programmes of the present administration”, Olubori said.

The Commissioner disclosed that successful candidates would be contacted soon through their phone numbers, explaining that the sweepers would be given necessary kits and equipment that would help in effective discharge of their duties.

Olubori however advised everyone to see the management of the environment as a collective responsibility and desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roadsides.
