The Christmas season is a season of love and a time people travel from one place to another. These trips contribute to the increasing rate of avoidable road accidents and death. To guide against such accidents and safeguard lives, Old Mutual Nigeria, an insurance firm, has launched a radio campaign tagged ‘Old Mutual Safety Tips.’ The company announced through, Offong Ambah, its group chief executive officer for West Africa, is to enlighten the public on protection tips and safety measures, would be aired on Cool FM, Wazobia FM, Info FM and Smooth FM in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Rivers states and Lagos.
Ambah noted that despite unavailable statistics, the ‘Ember’ season is often associated with a high rate of accidents and deaths, which often occur due to carelessness of motorists. “During this season, the roads are usually busier with a higher risk of accidents; and it is the tradition for people to use fireworks despite the fact that they are a life-threatening hazard. People are also exposed to safety risks at work, home and in their neighbourhood. As such, we have decided to focus on those seemingly minor details we ignore in our daily lives which pose a threat to our safety and those of our loved ones.”
